Being A Good _________ Is Not Enough

As I was going through some of my Google Reader feeds and WatchThatPage results, I noticed this McKenna Long media mention called "Being a Good Associate is Not Enough." The story is not new, but one that we all need to remember from time to time. "Being good at your job is not enough." It is like I used to tell my law school students when I was an adjunct prof - "If you identify all the issues, and give me all the 'IRAC' answers, you earn a C."

For those of you that do a good job at being a law firm librarian, but are looking to expand beyond the basic definition of what makes a good law librarian, Competitive Intelligence research may be an opportunity for you. In these times of change, you can look at it as an opportunity to hunker down and try to ride out the storm, or as an opportunity to shed old processes and take on new challenges.

Talk with your Partners, Marketing, Business Development and lateral recruiting teams and develop the relationship to let them know you and your department are valuable resources in helping them accomplish their objectives. If you don't know where to start, there are some names to on the left-hand side of this blog that would be more than happy to point you in the right direction.
